Jerry Dantzic, pictured here with his son and archivist Grayson, was a
photojournalist whose work in the 1950s is a glorious tribute to the city
of New York and its people. His gutsy, gritty and exhilarating prints
reveal all the richness and diversity of the era: glamorous celebrities,
swanky nightclubs, the romance of young lovers, Coney Island, Orchard
Street, and New Year's Eve in Times Square.
Jerry Dantzic's photographs have appeared for the past forty-five years in
such publications as the The New York Times, Life,
Look, 2wice, Vanity Fair, and American Photo.
His work has been shown in countless solo and group shows, and is now in
the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney
Museum of American Art, and The Museum of Modern Art. He taught for many
years at Long Island University and at Columbia University's Graduate
School of Journalism.
