Becoming a Sports Buddy
Being a Sports Buddy will take just a little of your time, but the impact of your involvement will make a world of difference. In addition to having fun, you will see all the good that you are doing for a child - - week by week, month by month. Your role is not to replace the parent, but just to be a friend. Your companionship will help a child to recognize their special worth, build their self-confidence, and expand their horizons.
The process for joining is the same as for becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister. You are asked to first call 212-563-BIGS to have a phone conversation with a staff member about the program. If after learning about the program in more detail you are interested, there is a reference check and an assessment review of your application.
Sports Buddies asks for a one year commitment. The program's interview process is geared to ensure that you have the qualifications and interest to succeed.
